Maintaining Equipment

Maintaining your equipment is fundamental to its use. There is no point in having a garden spade when the handle is broken, nor is having a photocopier that has no ink. Depending on what type of equipment you are using, it may need to be maintained in a different way, and as such it is important to familiarise yourself with the equipment you are using and the different ways it can be maintained.

Some equipment is very simple to maintain. A telephone, for example, is a standard piece of equipment for any home or office, and need only be maintained by making sure every few weeks that none of the buttons are clogged up dirt by wiping the surface. Other types of equipment may be more complicated to maintain, especially if the equipment itself is large, unwieldy or particularly difficult to use.

In the case of something like a printer or photocopier, it is important to clean the internal mechanical parts sometimes, as they can become clogged with dust, dirt or ink. It is quite easy to clean a printer, but it can take time, and can sometimes become a laborious process. Equally difficult to maintain from an effort perspective may be a computer, which has lots of different parts, all requiring maintenance. A fan will not work properly if it is not regularly dusted, and keys on a keyboard may not function if they are too dirty underneath.
